Heartwood Forest...

The Woodland Trust have bought land outside St Albans in the region of 850 acres to plant a new forest over the next twelve years.

It will be the largest indigenous forest in the UK re sculpting the landscape and providing additional nature habitat for British wildlife...

As part of the celebration I created a site specific installation made from recycled biodegradable materials within Langley Wood - an ancient woodland that will eventually be part of Heartwood forest .

Visitors wrote and drew their hopes, wishes and thoughts about the birth of this huge new forest onto recycled leaf shapes which I built into a withie and found material installation .

The installation will stay in place degrading over time to be taken back to the forest floor bit by bit nurturing the woodland with peoples hopes.

Some of the comments people left on the leaves below...

'Life to the forest'

'Take care of the trees'

'Grow tall and strong'

'Leaves may fall but love never dies' James Scott

'Heartwood Forever'

'Thank you for letting me climb your trees'  Tom Age 5
